About the Role

As an Automation Engineer, you will play a critical role in maintaining and optimizing the electrical, automation, and industrial network systems within our Sidcup production and warehousing facilities. The Sidcup site produces 50% of the GB SKU portfolio, operating at high capacity with eight manufacturing lines capable of producing 480,000 cans, 96,000 PET bottles, and 48,000 glass bottles per hour.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, supporting continuous improvement projects, managing system upgrades, and resolving breakdowns. You will also collaborate closely with technicians, contractors, and external specialists to ensure our site operates efficiently and safely.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Systems:

  • Manage the High Voltage (HV) supply, distribution, and transformation networks on-site, ensuring maintenance is planned and performed in line with production schedules.
  • Oversee Low Voltage (LV) distribution, coordinating routine maintenance and project work from the substation to the final point of use.
  • Provide support for on-site electrical maintenance teams, assist in resolving breakdowns, and contribute to achieving site efficiency targets. Owning electrical route cause analysis.

Automation Systems:

  • Maintain and troubleshoot Siemens PLC systems (S7-300, S7-400, S7-1500) and HMIs. Experience with Allen Bradley Control Logix and B&R Xenon screens is highly valued.
  • Perform system modifications and upgrades while managing external specialists for advanced automation projects.
  • Regularly back up automation systems and monitor automated backup systems (e.g., Lineview).
  • Work with robotic systems (Kuka & Fanuc), safety PLCs, SCADA systems (Wonderware, Siemens), and other automation technologies. Knowledge of these is highly advantageous.

Industrial Networking:

  • Debug and resolve issues within machine-level networks (Profinet) and site-wide networks (TCP/IP, TSN).
  • Install and maintain new systems in compliance with CCEP standards.
  • Provide technical guidance on VLAN configurations and firewall setups, coordinating changes with third-party specialists.

Skills and Experience

Required:

  • Extensive experience with Siemens PLC systems (S7-300, S7-400, S7-1500) and HMI troubleshooting.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial networking (Profinet, TCP/IP).
  • Background in automation technology within the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry.
  • Ability to lead, coach, and support on-site technicians and apprentices.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and external contractors.
  • HNC in electrical engineering and NVQ level 3 electrical engineering or equivilant as a minimum.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of additional systems like Allen Bradley, Kuka/Fanuc robots, SCADA systems (Wonderware, Siemens), and safety PLCs.
  • Familiarity with CCEP standards related to HV/LV electrical systems, automation, networking, and cyber security.
